Build confidence, discipline and fitness from age 3. Taught by SEA Games Gold Medallist instructor at Leisure Park Kallang.
Book a Free Trial ClassTaekwondo is more than kicks and punches. For children, it is a structured environment where they develop discipline, confidence and physical fitness from as young as 3 years old. At Athletic United Taekwondo, we have seen hundreds of toddlers and kids grow into focused, respectful and resilient young people through regular training.
Unlike team sports where your child may spend time on the bench, every child in a taekwondo class is actively training. Research found that children practising martial arts showed better focus, problem-solving and higher school marks than those in team sports or no sports at all. Each student progresses at their own pace through the belt ranking system, working towards the poom belt (junior black belt) and beyond — giving them clear goals and a sense of accomplishment with every grading.

Our toddler programme introduces martial arts through play — making it one of the best activities for 3 year olds and 4 year olds looking for a structured yet fun environment. Even if you are wondering whether martial arts is good for toddlers, rest assured that children at this age develop basic motor skills, coordination and the ability to listen and follow instructions in a safe, encouraging setting. Classes are 45 minutes and designed to keep young children engaged and having fun.
Our kids programme provides comprehensive martial arts training with a strong emphasis on self-defence. Students learn proper techniques, forms (poomsae), and sparring fundamentals while building character, self-confidence and a strong foundation for belt advancement. Many of our students go on to compete in local and international competitions, and taekwondo is also recognised as a pathway for Direct School Admission (DSA) to secondary schools in Singapore.

Taekwondo training requires concentration and self-control. Parents regularly tell us their children's behaviour and focus at school improves after starting classes.
In an age of screens and sedentary lifestyles, taekwondo gives kids a full-body workout that improves flexibility, strength, coordination and cardiovascular health.
The tenets of taekwondo — courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit — are taught and practised in every class.
Children learn practical self-defence techniques in a controlled, safe environment. Taekwondo equips kids with the awareness and skills to protect themselves while emphasising that these techniques are only for defence, never aggression.
The structured nature of taekwondo helps children with anger management and emotional regulation. For kids who struggle with impulse control or big emotions, the discipline and focus required in class can lead to meaningful improvements at home and school.
These benefits are backed by science. Research found that regular martial arts practice led to improved attention, creativity, higher self-esteem and self-efficacy, and a decrease in aggressiveness in children.
Taekwondo may also benefit children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). A peer-reviewed study found that an 8-week taekwondo programme significantly improved balance and motor coordination in children with ASD, with a remarkable 92% adherence rate — suggesting that children genuinely enjoy and stick with the training.
Our kids regularly participate and win medals at local and international taekwondo championships. Under the guidance of our SEA Games Gold Medallist instructor, students who want to compete receive specialised training in both poomsae (forms) and kyorugi (sparring).

Yes, taekwondo is excellent for toddlers. It helps develop motor skills, coordination, balance and the ability to listen and follow instructions. Our toddler classes use play-based learning to keep young children engaged while introducing fundamental martial arts concepts.
Most children can begin martial arts training from age 3-4. At this age, the focus is on basic coordination, listening skills and having fun. More structured technique training typically begins around age 5-6.

Yes. Taekwondo can be particularly beneficial for children with ADHD. The structured routines, clear expectations and emphasis on self-control help children practise focus and impulse regulation in a supportive setting. Many parents report noticeable improvements in their child's concentration and behaviour after consistent training. The physical activity also helps channel excess energy in a positive way.
Taekwondo can be a great activity for children on the autism spectrum. A peer-reviewed study found that children with ASD who completed an 8-week taekwondo programme showed significant improvements in balance and motor coordination, with 92% of participants completing the full programme. The predictable structure of classes, with warm-ups, drills and cool-downs following a consistent routine, can be reassuring for children who thrive on routine.
Both are excellent martial arts, but they differ in style. Taekwondo emphasises dynamic kicking techniques and agility, making it exciting and physically engaging for children. It is also an Olympic sport, giving students the opportunity to compete at the highest level. Karate focuses more on hand strikes and close-range techniques. Ultimately, the best choice depends on your child's interests — we recommend trying a class to see if taekwondo's energetic, kick-focused style is a good fit.
Absolutely. Ages 4 and 5 are an ideal time to start taekwondo. At this stage, children are developing coordination, balance and the ability to follow multi-step instructions — all of which taekwondo reinforces. Our Toddlers programme (ages 3-6) is specifically designed for this age group, using play-based learning to build motor skills and social confidence in a fun, structured environment.
Children can start taekwondo from as young as 3 years old. At this age, classes focus on basic movement, coordination and socialisation through play. By ages 5-6, children are ready for more structured technique training. There is no “too late” age to begin — children who start at 7 or older progress quickly because of their more developed motor skills and attention span.
Conveniently located at Leisure Park Kallang — just minutes from Kallang, Stadium and Mountbatten MRT stations.
